We registered for My Medicare – now you can too!

Pear Tree Family Practice has joined thousands of healthcare providers across Australia in registering in MyMedicare, a new voluntary registration system that will help us formalise the relationship between us and our patients.

MyMedicare allows you to nominate a general practice and general practitioner as your regular healthcare provider.

Formalising the patient-practice relationship, like with MyMedicare, has been shown to improve health and wellbeing, and that is why we are inviting all of our regular patients to register in MyMedicare.

If you have a valid Medicare card or Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Veteran card and have had two face-to-face consultations with us in the last 24 months, you are eligible for MyMedicare.

Parents/guardians and children can be registered at the same practice, if either is eligible and registered.

A parent/guardian must register a child under 14 years and provide consent on their behalf and this registration will need to be completed at the practice.

Young people aged 14 to 17 years can register and provide consent without a parent/guardian.

What if I have trouble with technology?

There are other ways that you can register if you have trouble using technology.

We suggest that you ask a family member or someone who is a bit more confident to help you through the process.

If you are coming in for a health check or a new careplan with one of our nurses, they can register for you.

A registration in MyMedicare is only successful when both the patient and practice have provided consent to formalise their relationship through one of these processes.

Once you have registered with your selected general practice in MyMedicare and chosen your preferred GP, you are able to change or update your registration as you need.

Does MyMedicare restrict me to only seeing my preferred GP?

No.

Registering with MyMedicare does not restrict your access to other healthcare providers including other GPs and practices.

However, you will only be able to access benefits provided through MyMedicare at your registered practice.

Will MyMedicare share any of my health information?

MyMedicare is a voluntary patient registration system that records your details and the details of your chosen primary care team. MyMedicare can not hold any of your clinical health information.

Your clinical information will continue to be available in your My Health Record, if you have one.

My Health Record provides patients and their healthcare providers with access to vital health information at the point of care, including in an emergency. This can include shared health summaries, current medicines and prescriptions, immunisation history, hospital discharge information and Medicare, DVA and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme history.

As part of your MyMedicare registration, your chosen practice and GP will appear on your My Health Record to ensure all health professionals you see for example, at a public hospital will know who to talk to about your regular care. If you do not wish your MyMedicare registration to appear on your My Health Record, you can choose this option in your My Health Record.

Can I change my GP/practice?

Yes, you can change or update your preferred GP or regular practice.

Once you have registered with your regular general practice and preferred GP in MyMedicare, you are able to change or update your registration using Medicare Online or through the Express Plus Medicare mobile app.
